 What are you working on now? 

I am on the Board for Women Aware. I believe in its work to provide resources to every member of the community. I especially believe in the mission and purpose of Women of Excellence in celebrating truly extraordinary women in Siouxland. As a project manager at Western Iowa Tech, I strive to create changes that ensure all students know that they belong in institutions of higher education, so they can reach their goals and succeed in education and beyond. This includes creating a culture of inclusion and instituting equitable policies.

What is your vision for the future? 

Siouxland has the potential to be a hub of cultural wealth. It is a place where anyone can pursue their goals and dreams. By harnessing the power of diversity and ensuring that everyone feels included and valued, Siouxland can leverage its cultural wealth to propel the community to new heights of innovation, prosperity, and social cohesion.

What would you like to see happen in Siouxland?

Siouxland, as a community, needs to invest in its young people so they can first believe in themselves and then be provided with the resources and opportunities to thrive. I would love to see Siouxland create more mentorship opportunities for young adults, especially for young people of color. There is a tremendous amount of undiscovered young talent in Siouxland and all they need is for someone to provide the opportunities for them to succeed. They need to be included in networking circles and valued for who they are and the experiences they bring, not just for what they represent.

What are you doing to make that happen?

I have worked in higher education for almost ten years, and it has been my mission to advocate and create changes so more people in our community not only have access to education, but also succeed and strive within those realms. I strive to create spaces and opportunities for other people through mentorship and by advocating for policies that promote equal access to education, employment, and civic engagement.

How can people help you make that happen? 

To unlock the full potential of diversity in Siouxland, it is essential to create inclusive policies, practices, and spaces that embrace and celebrate the contributions of all community members.
