Sydney McManamy,  REALTORĀ® at United Real Estate Solutions

What are you working on now?

I have the privilege of being on several boards that focus on community connections and making Siouxland not only a better place to live and work, but a destination people want to visit and stay. Through my involvement in Siouxland GO, I work to create opportunities to make professionals and entrepreneurs feel they are an important part of this community. There are so many great events and traditions in Siouxland that need to be preserved and shared. Serving on the River-Cade Board, EFTAB ā€“ Events Facilities & Tourism Advisory Board, and RAGBRAI Hospitality Committee have allowed me to help bring some of the events that I loved growing up to the families of today in my hometown.

What is your vision for the future?

I would love to see Siouxland continue to rally around small businesses and entrepreneurs. There are an incredible number of passionate business leaders in Siouxland that put everything into growing their business and the community. I enjoy being able to support new restaurants, coffee shops, and stores as they open but also have some of my favorite Siouxland staples that I enjoy sharing with others when they visit our community!

What would you like to see happen in Siouxland?

I would love to see each person in our community find one passion outside of their career that brings them fulfillment. This personal ideology is one of the many reasons I am so heavily involved in Siouxland. I believe that when someone starts a new career, starts a career in a new community, or enters a new stage of life, there is an unintended isolation that people go through. When someone finds their ā€œhomeā€ away from the office, it is easier to acclimate to their new normal and connect with the community in which they live.

What are you doing to make that happen?

I describe myself as one of Siouxlandā€™s cheerleaders! I have had the opportunity to sit in rooms that keep me up to date on what is happening around town. I do my best to share what I know while encouraging people to look for places and find opportunities around Siouxland that they are passionate about.

How can people help you make that happen?

As a Siouxland resident, please encourage your friends, coworkers, and employees to get involved outside of their careers. If theyā€™re not sure what their passions are, encourage them to sign up for an organization where they can meet potential friends or find nonprofit work where they feel connected.

If community engagement isnā€™t what fills their cup, encourage them to find events happening around town! Did you know that there is a community calendar on exploresiouxcity.org? Now you do! I would love for all businesses, organizations, nonprofits, and groups to start submitting events to the Visitor Bureauā€™s website so visitors and locals have a one-stop-shop for all the fun things they can do!
