What am I passionate about, and how do I use my voice/talent to make a difference?
My family is my passion. I’m fortunate to be able to be home with my kids, thanks to my wonderful husband, Saul, who, along with his brother, runs Gomez Pallets. When I give back to the community, I always feel like I’m giving back from my family. I would not be able to volunteer and give back the way I have if it weren’t for my husband. He understands how important it is for me to give back, and he is always there to help with the kids or just be my biggest cheerleader. He understands how passionate I am about instilling a positive example for our children by showing a commitment to serving others.
I’m passionate about my Catholic faith and Catholic education through promoting inclusiveness in religious education through the Fire Foundation of Northwest Iowa. Having a 5-year-old with ASD, I’ve seen firsthand the benefits of this amazing program. I’ve always said, “Adrian didn’t get to choose whether or not he had this disability.” We are excited to see Adrian start Kindergarten this fall at Mater Dei, along with his older brother Sebastian (4th grade)! My family and I are passionate about anything to do with Heelan! As Mater Dei PTO President, I hope to encourage a sense of belonging and community among parents, teachers, and staff.
What is my vision for the future of Siouxland?
To increase parental involvement in schools and the community. Their involvement can have a significant positive impact on a student’s educational experience and overall success. I know it’s hard for a lot of parents to find the time with work and their kid’s extra-curricular activities. I encourage parents to find joy in volunteering together as a family or with friends. Our children grow up so fast, and they’ll be on their own in the blink of an eye. I believe one of the greatest gifts you can give your child is showing them how to be a servant of Christ.
What am I doing to make my vision a reality?
By building relationships, collaborating with other schools and PTO to learn what strategies and activities have been successful. Ensuring clear and effective communication between school and parents regarding community and school volunteering opportunities. Encouraging high school students to volunteer for service hours. My hope is some day, after high school is done, they will continue to help give back through volunteering. By leading by example, I set the standard for commitment, work ethic, and dedication. When others see their leader actively participating and contributing, they are more likely to follow suit.
How can people help make this happen?
I always encourage anyone who is actively involved in volunteering to share their experiences and help encourage others to join in giving back to the community. “Volunteers don’t necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.”
What Quote inspires me?
“Remember, making a difference doesn’t always require grand gestures. Even small actions can contribute to positive change when done consistently and passionately.” — Tim Beckmann.
