What are you passionate about, and how do you use your voice/talent to make a difference?

Growing up, supportive mentors taught me that it was okay to fail if I got back up and tried again. I strive to be that person for others today. I am passionate about building inclusive, safe spaces where people can engage with each other and become a part of a team. Showing support for those around you is the best way to foster a nurturing environment where people can be their best. I believe equity is non-negotiable. Often the voices you hear from the least have the most to share, and once they feel valued, someone can surprise you with the wisdom they can offer. My goal is to empower others to recognize their individual strengths and step into leadership.

What is your vision for the future of Siouxland?

My vision for the future of Siouxland is to nurture and grow a vibrant, thriving community that is not only a welcoming destination for visitors but a cherished home where generations can flourish. We will continue to embrace our diversity by uplifting the unique cultures and backgrounds that make up our community. Siouxland will continue to grow into a prosperous place to live, work, and play.

Apart from affordable housing and a growing job market, I feel strategic investments in our social programs and amenities will ensure Siouxland has a sustainable future. We have a wide variety of organizations dedicated to expanding these resources. Ultimately, when people feel supported by their community, they’re more likely to establish roots here in Siouxland.

What are you doing to make that happen?

My commitment toward this vision starts with being engaged both personally and civically within our community. I make it a priority to stay up to date on local developments, policy decisions, and community initiatives that are actively shaping Siouxland’s growth. I regularly dedicate time to local organizations and community programs that strengthen Siouxland. Volunteering with my kids and family, specifically, fills my cup because it shows them why taking care of our community here in Siouxland is so special. My hope is that being involved instills a deep sense of pride, respect, and responsibility for their hometown.

How can people help you make that happen?

We are blessed with a long list of non-profits in the Siouxland area. I would urge everyone to find a cause or an organization that they are passionate about and volunteer. Volunteering comes in many forms. Whether that is making phone calls, hosting a fundraiser, or helping with hands-on projects, it is all appreciated by the organizations. Many hands make light work.

What quote inspires you?

“A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and those roots spring up and make new trees.” – Amelia Earhart

The easiest task for each of us to accomplish every day is to be kind to others. You never know how far that kindness can spread.
