Editor’s Note

Summer in Siouxland, from the highly anticipated Saturday in the Park outdoor music festival to the Art Center’s ArtSplash festival showcasing local and regional artists, is the perfect time to get outdoors, enjoy the expressive backdrop of our community, and create memories with friends and family.

There is nothing better than feeling the freedom of the season, getting outside, and soaking up every drop of these longer days. Have you felt the energy on the Sioux City Public Museum’s lawn during a Downtown Live event? Maybe gone for a bike ride along the riverfront? Or participated in a sound bath or yoga class with the vast sky above you and the breeze on your skin?

I’d encourage you to explore what’s right in your backyard. There is so much beauty all around us. It’s in our name – Iowa – meaning “beautiful land” derived from the Native American Dakota Sioux word ayúxba. Hiking through Stone State Park, bird-watching at Dorothy Pecaut, or exploring the Loess Hills – there is no denying that we are surrounded by beauty. Make this the summer that you take it all in.

Enjoy and keep expanding!
