What challenges have you experienced in Siouxland?
I was born and raised in France. When I first came to the US in 2014, I worked at EPCOT in Florida, surrounded by French-speaking people. I was living with five other French girls, who I quickly became good friends with, so even if I was far from my country, I never felt it was hard being away from my family and friends. Fast forward to 2017, when I moved to Sioux City, I had no one other than my husband, and the biggest challenge was the feeling of loneliness and finding where I belonged in the community.
How has Siouxland been welcoming?
The people of Siouxland are kind and welcoming. Despite language barriers, I always found answers to my questions and help whenever needed. When I started studying at Morningside University in 2019, I met students and teachers who believed in me and made me feel at home. It helped me overcome the challenges I faced during my first year in the city. My husband and I had a son in 2019. I cannot stress enough that Sioux City is great for raising a family. There are so many activities and family-friendly facilities. I also discovered new aspects of the city when I became a mom.
What do you want the people of Siouxland to know?
Siouxland is full of opportunities for everyone, and I want people to know that they should be bold and ask for help, even if they are not fluent in English. There will always be someone here to help them. As a future Spanish high school teacher, I have set the goal to help as many newcomers as possible.

¿Qué desafíos ha experimentado en Siouxland?
Nací y crecí en Francia. Cuando vine por primera vez a los EE. UU. en 2014, trabajé en EPCOT en Florida, rodeado de personas de habla francesa. Vivía con otras cinco chicas francesas, de las que rápidamente me hice buena amiga, así que aunque estaba lejos de mi país, nunca sentí que fuera difícil estar lejos de mi familia y amigos. Avance rápido hasta 2017, cuando me mudé a Sioux City, no tenía a nadie más que a mi esposo, y el mayor desafío fue el sentimiento de soledad y encontrar a dónde pertenecía en la comunidad.
¿Cómo ha sido la acogida de Siouxland?
La gente de Siouxland es amable y acogedora. A pesar de las barreras del idioma, siempre encontré respuestas a mis preguntas y ayuda cuando la necesité. Cuando comencé a estudiar en la Universidad de Morningside en 2019, conocí a estudiantes y profesores que creyeron en mí y me hicieron sentir como en casa. Me ayudó a superar los desafíos que enfrenté durante mi primer año en la ciudad. Mi esposo y yo tuvimos un hijo en 2019. No puedo enfatizar lo suficiente que Sioux City es excelente para formar una familia. Hay tantas actividades e instalaciones para toda la familia. También descubrí nuevos aspectos de la ciudad cuando me convertí en mamá.
¿Qué quieres que sepa la gente de Siouxland?
Siouxland está lleno de oportunidades para todos, y quiero que las personas sepan que deben ser atrevidas y pedir ayuda, incluso si no hablan inglés con fluidez. Siempre habrá alguien aquí para ayudarlos. Como futura maestra de secundaria de español, me he fijado el objetivo de ayudar a tantos recién llegados como sea posible.
