What challenges have you experienced in Siouxland?

One challenge I’ve experienced is seeing how negatively people sometimes view Siouxland. I think it’s easy to focus on what we don’t have compared to larger cities, especially as a young person, and that can make you feel like you have to leave to find opportunities. But through getting involved in my community, I’ve realized that Siouxland has so much more to offer than people give it credit for. I’ve had opportunities to work with local leaders, organizations, and schools, and I’ve met so many people who genuinely want to make this community better. That experience has challenged me to look at Siouxland differently, not just in terms of what it lacks, but in terms of what we can build here.

How has Siouxland been welcoming?

Since I was born and raised here, I’ve never really thought of Siouxland as welcoming me. To me, it’s the people who have made it feel like home. So many people have believed in me, encouraged me, and given me the confidence to pursue what I’m passionate about; I’ll always be grateful for that support.

What do you want the people of Siouxland to know?

Siouxland has given me so many opportunities that have shaped who I am today. From internships and community projects to working with the school district, local politicians, organizations, and leaders. I’ve had opportunities to learn, grow, and make an impact. I want people to know that Siouxland has so much to offer. Sometimes we focus on what we don’t have, but incredible people and opportunities are here if you’re willing to get involved. This community has given me a lot, and I hope I can give back just as much.
