Assistant Principal at West Middle School
Volunteer Organizations: Board Member at Headid Little League, Volunteer Coach for the Future Stars Organization
What are you working on now?
Each day I get the opportunity to positively impact the lives of children in the Siouxland area. Whether at school or on the practice field coaching, I do my best to set a good example for our youth and show them hard work, dedication and treating everyone with respect can help you accomplish any goals you set.
As a parent of 3 young children, I am also working on raising my children to be kind, accepting of others, and hard-working. I want to instill in them the importance of doing for others and giving back to their community.
What is your vision for the future? What would you like to see happen in Siouxland?
My vision for the future is to help Sioux City continue to focus on family and activities for our youth. Family activities and youth programs provide our children with a safe, fun activity where they learn valuable life lessons. These life lessons include showing respect and being courteous towards others, being responsible for one’s own actions, developing self-confidence, and making good choices. The more activities and programs we can offer, the better it is for families in Sioux City.
What are you doing to make that happen?
I am a volunteer coach for the Future Stars Organization and a Board Member at Headid Little League. I coach football, basketball, and baseball. When it comes to coaching, I teach the specific skills related to the sport, but I also teach the children how to be a good teammate, to show good sportsmanship, and to control one’s emotions when competing.
This upcoming year I plan to get more involved with my church. I plan on participating in the family activities my church offers and having my own children attend Sunday School regularly.
As a principal, I’m going to continue to be positive and encouraging toward our students and ensure our staff does the same. For some students, school is the safe place in their lives where they need that support, guidance, and encouragement.
How can people help you make that happen?
People need to continue to volunteer to make sure we can provide these programs for our youth for years to come. It does take time to volunteer, but it is all worth it when you know you are making a difference in the lives of our children.
If all parents would take an active roll in parenting their children to be responsible, respectful, hard-working children, the community would benefit greatly. Hopefully, as a mentor for a great number of youth, I am helping them do just that.
