While the Olympic Games may be over, Siouxland is still bringing home the gold. Site Selection magazine recently ranked the Sioux City Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) as the top spot for economic development for the 12th time! When ranked among cities of our size, we lead the country in total projects.
You might be asking, “What does that mean?” “Why should I care?” It is important for several reasons. The designation is a sign of economic growth in our community. The criteria used by Site Selection magazine include projects with a minimum investment of $1 million, creation of 20 or more new jobs, or 20,000 square feet or more of new space. These are real commitments and investments by businesses. It means new plants, expanded operations, and growing payrolls that strengthen families and our tri-state region.
A fitting example is Sioux Honey’s recent multi-million-dollar expansion announcement. A company that has called Sioux City home for more than 100 years has chosen to expand its operations locally and add dozens of jobs. The maker of Sue Bee Honey has a footprint in other states but is choosing to grow their business in Siouxland.
When local businesses expand, they reinvest in our community; jobs are created, workers have more opportunities, and their families have greater stability. The Siouxland Chamber of Commerce and The Siouxland Initiative work side by side to support our local businesses and to recruit and retain new ones. Being recognized as first in the nation for economic development is a valuable tool in helping companies decide whether to make Siouxland their home.
Every business starts with an entrepreneur and an idea. It takes years of hard work and dedication to achieve success, but it also takes teamwork. This latest Site Selection ranking reflects a culture of collaboration, a workforce that delivers, and communities that welcome growth. As new projects rise across the tri-state region, Siouxland continues to prove that excellence is not accidental. It is a standard we have chosen to live by.
