What are you working on now?
Earlier last year, I learned about a professional organization called the Siouxland Growth Organization. I started attending meetings and fell in love with their mission, and wanted to get more involved. At the beginning of 2022, I was nominated to be on the board as their Marketing Chair. We focus on volunteering and networking to help shape the future of our communities in Siouxland. What I love about the Siouxland Growth Organization is that we are always looking for fun and innovative ways to make Siouxland a better place for everyone, as well as finding ways to retain and bring more young professionals to Siouxland.
What is your vision for the future? / What would you like to see happen in Siouxland?
My vision for the future of Siouxland is something I get excited about contemplating! I love seeing Siouxland continue to grow, and I love hearing about all the new businesses and corporations that are coming to our area. Itās also great seeing all the new and expanding housing developments, and the unique events that put Siouxland on people’s radar. I envision Siouxland continuing to grow and create new and unique opportunities for our community.
I would love to see Sioux Cityās downtown area be a bit livelier during the day and family-focused as we have built more apartments and other housing opportunities for citizens. Something that comes to mind would be adding a grocery store, bagel and pastry shops, and more green spaces for kids and walking pets.
What are you doing to make that happen?
Supporting the local businesses that are already in the downtown area I believe is a great way to show the need and want for local businesses or larger businesses. Thatās why I like supporting the Innovation Market held by the Siouxland Growth Organization. Innovation Market is a business idea competition for entrepreneurs giving them a chance to win startup funds for their new business idea. I feel that new locally owned small businesses are usually the start of new ideas. A new business draws the attention of people to a specific area that possibly had little to no foot traffic. With more people, that could lead to more innovative ideas to our downtown area.
How can people help you make that happen?
With the citizens of Siouxland, and the local businesses showing their support for new businesses, events, or causes is how we can all individually do our part. The support of others inside and outside of the community is what makes our communities grow.
