Tessa Wilcke

What are you passionate about, and how do you use your voice/talent to make a difference?

No matter where I find myself in life and career, leadership tends to be where my passion gravitates the most.  Leadership is a quality I have had since I was young.  I never considered it to be something earned, but something to step into. Leadership is stepping up and using your voice.  Leadership is within you, and it sparkles at the right moments.  My leadership qualities help me to use my voice without apology, which in turn can inspire others to do the same.  You belong in the room.  You belong at the table, on the board, in the meeting – even when it feels intimidating.  I aim to lead by example and empower others to step forward and lead as well.

What is your vision for the future of Siouxland?

Siouxland is full of ready, capable, and passionate young leaders – and that makes our future exciting.  My hope for Siouxland is to see our communities lean into change, new leadership, and new ideas.  Our communities thrive on volunteering, boards, committees, and showing up.  My vision for Siouxland is to see the baton handoff to our young leaders following the great example of leaders who have come before us.

What are you doing to make that happen?

My involvement in the Leadership Siouxland program and Board helped me see firsthand how many awesome leaders we have in our communities.  As Board President, it was my job to exemplify leadership, bring new ideas, and step in to make sure the program continued for years to come.  I have also shifted my volunteer efforts to my home community of Moville, IA, and joined the Meadows Country Club board this past fall.  My husband, TJ, and I, along with the Moville Days organizers, also took on the Moville Days Poker Run this past year, raising funds for our local childcare center project.  We were happy to play even a small part in supporting a project that means so much to our community.

How can people help you make that happen?

Siouxland will see great things happen when everyone steps up to volunteer, join a board or committee, or show up to help at an event in their community.  Our communities need your time and energy to continue doing big things.  Our leaders have shown up in the past and present, and we will need our future leaders to step up going forward.

What quote inspires you?

“Great leaders don’t set out to be a leader.  They set out to make a difference. “ – Lisa Haisha.
