What’s Next for Downtown?

Each year, Downtown Partners takes a step back from the day-to-day to look ahead. At our annual board retreat, our 15-member Board of Directors comes together to reflect on progress, align our priorities, and shape the work plan that will guide the year ahead.  

The annual retreat also coincides with the release of our 2025 Annual Report, which captures downtown’s momentum over the past year and highlights how community support has driven our progress. Throughout our discussions, one guiding question kept resurfacing: How can Downtown Partners create even more opportunities for downtown Sioux City to grow with your continued involvement?

Activating Spaces

In 2026, you’ll see a strong focus on activation, bringing fresh energy into the spaces we experience every day. That could take the form of a one-night street activation featuring local entertainers, a pop-up filling an empty storefront, or a temporary installation in one of downtown’s parks that invites people to stop, interact, and stay awhile. These moments are what help shape downtown’s atmosphere and create shared experiences that strengthen community connection.

Strengthening Business Support

Downtown Sioux City is home to more than 500 businesses, and their success remains central to our mission. A key priority discussed at the retreat was deepening one-on-one engagement with business owners to ensure they have access to resources, connections, and support when they need it most. We’re committed to celebrating business milestones, opening doors to new opportunities, and making sure every business owner knows they have a partner in growth.

Recruiting and Collaborating

Looking forward also means welcoming new ideas and investment. Downtown Partners will continue to work closely with local and regional partners, including you, to recruit businesses and encourage thoughtful, intentional development that aligns with downtown’s long-term vision.

A Stronger Presence on the Streets

Visibility matters. In 2026, you’ll notice a more consistent, recognizable presence throughout the downtown district, supporting cleanliness, maintaining public spaces, and ensuring the downtown remains a safe, welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike throughout the day. 

Expanding Capacity to Do More

Underlying every priority discussed at the retreat was a shared understanding that growth requires capacity. To deliver more activation, more support, and more connection, the board expressed a clear desire to grow our team and expand what Downtown Partners can accomplish with your support.
